ood evening, everyone. For those of you who don't know me, I’m Sarah — and I’ve had the
privilege of being Emily’s best friend for the past fourteen years.
Some of you might know the story of how we met. Freshman year, first week of college, when I
knocked on her door at midnight holding a container of emergency cookie dough because my
roommate had locked me out. Emily didn’t just open the door. She split the dough with me, let
me crash on her floor, and by morning she had already decided we were going to be friends for
life. She was right.
That’s Emily. She shows up. Through every breakup, every bad job, every holiday that went
sideways — she was always there, with the right words, the right wine, and usually a very good
playlist.
And then James came along. I’ll admit, I was skeptical. I gave him a thorough interrogation over
our first group dinner. But it didn’t take long to see what Emily saw in him. He makes her laugh
in a way that crinkles her whole face. He holds her hand like he’s still a little surprised he gets
to. And he loves her the way she loves everyone else — completely, and without keeping score.
Watching the two of you together, I understand something I didn’t before. Emily spent all those
years taking care of the rest of us. James, you take care of her. You make her feel safe and seen.
And for that, you will always have my gratitude — and my deep respect for your putting up with
her terrible puns.
So here’s to you, Emily and James. May your life together be full of long Sunday mornings,
adventures you didn’t plan, and a love that grows a little deeper every single day.
