ood evening, everyone. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Sarah —
and I've been Emily's best friend for twenty-two years.
We met on the first day of third grade. She was wearing a sparkly purple
backpack, and she walked straight up to me and asked if I wanted to be her
partner for the class project. I was so shy I almost said no. I'm so glad I didn't.
Because from that day on, she became my person — the one I told everything
to, the one who showed up at my door with soup when I was sick, the one who
believed in me on days when I didn't believe in myself.
So when I first met Jack, I had a list. I had standards. And I watched closely. I
looked for the things that actually matter — kindness, patience, the way he
looks at her when she isn't paying attention. And I found all of it. I found the
man who makes her laugh that real laugh — the one she only gives people she
completely trusts. I found the way he holds her hand without even realizing
it. And I found the way she is softer, braver, and more completely herself
when she is with him.
Emily, the truth is — I've never seen you like this. Not just happy.
Home.
You've
found the person who makes ordinary days feel like the best days. And Jack,
thank you. Thank you for loving her the way she deserves to be loved. Thank
you for making her feel like the extraordinary person she has always been to
the rest of us.
I don't have a clever toast or a perfect metaphor. I just have this: Emily, you
are my oldest friend, and you are the best person I know. And standing here
today, watching you marry the love of your life, surrounded by everyone who
loves you — my heart is just so full.
