ood evening, everyone. For those of you I haven’t met, I’m Maya — Emma’s
younger sister and the official Maid of Honor. I’ve been training for this job
since I was seven, when I helped Emma plan a wedding for our neighbor’s cat,
complete with a pillowcase dress. The cat never showed up. Emma still has the
invitation.
That’s the Emma I know: once she decides something matters, she commits
completely — and somehow makes everyone around her love it too. She read me
bedtime stories long after I pretended not to need them. She drove two hours home
from college to watch my terrible high school play and told me I was the best thing on
that stage. She taught me that being a grown-up means protecting the people you
love and making sure they feel seen.
Emma also has a quiet gift for making ordinary days feel special. She turns Friday
night dinners into something to look forward to, keeps every card anyone has ever
given her, and remembers the name of every person she’s ever met. Being loved by
Emma is a little like standing in the sun — you don’t realize how warm it is until she
walks into the room.
When Emma first told me about Noah, she tried to play it cool. “There’s this guy,” she
said, like it wasn’t a big deal. But I saw the way she smiled when she said his name. And
when I finally met Noah, I understood. He laughs at her jokes, even the bad ones. He
lets her take the last bite of dessert. And more than that, he looks at her like she is the
most interesting person in every room — because to him, she is.
Noah, thank you for loving my sister the way she deserves to be loved: fully, patiently,
and with a little bit of mischief. Welcome to the family. Emma, you have always been
my favorite person to call. I am so glad you have found someone who will always be
yours to call too.
