Time Worksheet

Learning how to tell the time or read the clock is one of the most basic things that every child must learn. Even though there are digital clocks that can easily tell the time, it is still important that children must know how to read an analog clock. It’s like learning to drive a manual automobile first before an automatic one, as manual automobiles are more difficult to learn but once the skill is mastered, switching to automatic is much more easier.

Even before starting formal education, it is important that parents should already teach their children how to tell time both on both analog and digital clocks. While there are a lot of ways to aid parents in teaching their children on how to tell time, one effective method of teaching children is through the use of worksheets. We have provided ten examples of time worksheets that can be of help in teaching children how to tell the time.

Importance of Learning How to Tell Time at an Early Age

Time plays a great role in our lives. Some may argue that wealth is the most valuable resource; remember, however, that you can never buy time with your money. A time wasted is a life wasted. When we waste our money on irrelevant things, we can always gain the same amount back. But when we waste time, we can never recover the moment that was lost.

In order to get the concept of time across children, you can start by teaching them how to tell time at an early age. Telling time is a very important concept that children should learn in their early childhood years because this skill can also help them for the rest of their lives.

Telling time is one of the skills that every child must hone and is also every adult’s responsibility to teach it to them. There are some children who find it difficult to tell time that is why it is encouraged that they should be taught and be encouraged to keep on practicing until they master it.

When children would already know how to tell time, they will be able to know how much time had passed in a day. For example, during play time, they will be able to figure out how much time they have spent on playing and they will also understand why their parents would stop and tell them ‘it’s already late in the afternoon’ or ‘you have spent so much time playing’. If they understand the concept of time, they will also know the importance of it.

When children already know how to tell time on their own, setting a schedule for them would be easy. Parents can easily set their waking up time, meal time, study time, play time, or sleeping time like a breeze. They will also become more independent because parents wouldn’t have to keep on reminding them of their activities within the day or that one activity is already taking too much time to accomplish.

Learning how to tell the time may be a small skill set a child can learn but it is actually a must for lifelong learning. Soon enough, when the child grows older, he/she will know the value time especially in his professional career.

Teaching Children How to Tell Time

There are some children who find it hard to understand the importance of usage of time. That is why you have to make sure that you are going to do a careful step-by-step process so that they will not become overwhelmed when you teach them the concepts of time.

Even before teaching them how to tell time, you have to make them master the numbers first. You only need to teach the numbers one to 60, as there are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 seconds in an hour, and 24 hours in a day.

Introduce to them the clock, specifically its basic parts and functions. Make sure you indicate the key difference between the clock’s long hand, short hand, and fast hand. The long hand indicates the minute, the short hand indicates the hour, and the short hand indicates the seconds. Also, the clock’s hands only move to the right in a circular manner (it is where the word “clockwise” was born). When teaching time, start with the easy ones such as 3 o’clock, 6 o’clock, 9 o’clock, and 12 o’clock. Then you can move to minutes and seconds once the child has already mastered reading the hours in a clock.

A time worksheet easily aids a child in learning time. We hope you found our article to be informative as well as useful, as we have also provided some affordable and effective time worksheets for your personal use.
