Dear Dr. Voss,
My name is Jordan Park, and I am a junior majoring in Computer Science at
State Polytechnic. I am enrolled in your CS 450: Advanced Algorithms section
this fall, and I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself before the
semester begins.
Over the past two years, my coursework and side projects have drawn me
toward distributed systems and fault-tolerant architectures. I read your recent
paper on consensus-protocol optimization in the ACM Distributed Computing
journal, and it directly influenced the design of a distributed key-value store I
built last spring with two classmates. We presented it at the undergraduate
research symposium and are currently preparing it for open-source release.
I am particularly interested in the module on randomized algorithms and hope
to pursue a senior thesis that bridges theory with systems-level
implementation. I would love to ask a few questions about your current
research and whether you will be taking on undergraduate research
assistants this year.
Would you have any availability during your office hours in the first week of
classes? I have reviewed the syllabus and would also be happy to discuss
potential project ideas that align with your lab’s ongoing work.
