100+ Chemical Change Examples | MS Word, PDF

When we think about chemicals, the first thing that may come to mind would be an experiment in chemistry class wherein we learn that chemicals can be helpful or destructive. But for those who have already learned how to mix chemicals, they would often think about the possibilities of mixing or if the chemicals being used should be handled with care or handled with caution. Now moving on, when you hear the word change, you may think about an improvement of something good to better, it could be a change in the situation or a change in the environment.

Now that we have what we may say as an opinion or our thoughts on the table, think about this and tell me, chemical change. Again, you may be saying a change in chemicals as we learned in Chemistry class, or as we learned by observing. You may also ask yourself why is it so important, why is it so necessary to know about this topic? Because, when we plan on writing an essay about chemicals, we should at least know what they are and how they came to be. Whether you may be writing an essay about them or research for. If you really do want to know the answer to that question, you should check out the article right now.

What Are Chemical Changes?

When you say chemical change,  this means the act of any type of object that can be transformed or manipulated in a way that it changes into something new. This means that any object with an example for this would be burning some wood. This is considered a chemical change as the results of burning the wood, gives a new object or a new thing. When you burn wood, your result is ashes or coal, depending on how far you have also burned the material. So when you hear the words chemical and change, your first instinct would be to think of any chemical mixed with another chemical to make the change, as much as this is also true, it does not always mean a mixture of chemicals. It can also mean in any shape or form that can alter its appearance and make it into something new than it originally was. In addition to that, a chemical change also called a chemical reaction is the effects of having to change something to make it something else or something new. The different reaction would be that of a physical reaction.

Physical Change Versus Chemical Change

Have you asked yourself what you think is the difference between a physical change and a chemical change? In Science class, we are taught that a physical change can also be called a physical reaction, the same goes for the chemical change, which can also be called a chemical reaction. However, what some may not have been taught about is what is the difference between these two changes? A physical change happens when the shape, the state of the object and its texture shows physical changes. This means that you can actually see it happening, but its chemical substances remain intact.

However, for a chemical change, you can also see it changing into something new or something better. Depending on what material you are using for the chemical change. Its physical shape, state and texture changes but so do its molecules. So to make it as simple as ever, in a physical change, only the physical part of the object changes, but its chemicals remain intact. In a chemical change, everything is changed to make something new. An example for physical change is cutting firewood. You can see it change physically but its molecules remain intact. It is still wood when it comes out. For chemical change burning firewood, you can see its physical and chemical shape change. When you burn firewood, you either get to see it turn to coal or ashes.

Types of Chemical Changes

Did you know that there are three types of chemical change? These three types are Non-organic, Organic and Biochemical. Each of these chemical changes has its own properties and its own uses. Let’s check them out now.

1. Non-Organic Chemical Change

The first on the list is non-organic chemical change. A non-organic chemical change also called an inorganic chemical change is a process in which its chemical reaction or change do not usually have any or involve a certain element. Carbon is not present in an inorganic chemical change, compared to an organic chemical change in which elements that are vital to make the change are present. An example for an non-organic chemical change is combustion between two or more elements.

2. Organic Chemical Change

What is an organic chemical change? An organic chemical change is the process of something to happen naturally rather than forced. Any experiment being done on its own accord, and have not been altered in any way by humans. An example for this would be an apple tree. An apple tree growing out in the forest, where humans are not able to alter or force it to grow. Anything organic happens or changes naturally and within its own time frame.

3. Biochemical Change

A biochemical change is a type of chemical change that mostly happens to living things. This means, you can expect a biochemical change to happen to animals, plants and even human beings. An example for a biochemical change in a plant would be photosynthesis in plants. The fact that this is considered a biochemical change is because, a plant as a living organism reacts to the sudden changes given by the sun to its own parts. Another would be hunger in humans. The biochemical change in this would be if a person is not able to eat a meal within a day, the acid found in the stomach would give a sudden change that would cause the person to feel pain within his digestive system. This is the biochemical change happening.

How to Use Chemical Changes?

Let’s have a small recap shall we? We went through knowing what a chemical change is to the difference between a chemical change and a physical change. Adding to the fact that we had some examples to make the definition easier to understand. We were also discussing the types of chemical changes and added some examples to make the topics easier to grasp.

Now, if you think we are finished with everything, you may want to skip this part if all you wanted to know was what a chemical change is, but if you are looking to use it for research, I suggest you stay a while. How does one begin to know how to write a chemical change? We are told to write out what we have observed, so the following how to’s are here for you.

1. For Research Purposes

It goes without saying that there comes a time that even writing about chemical changes can be considered a topic for research. When it so happens, you would at least know how to format what you write. When writing about your research on chemical changes, follow the APA format. Use the APA format when writing your research or your thesis study on chemical changes.

2. Reflection Essay

Students in class are often told to write what they have observed in the form of an essay. This is also a good way for you to use essays when doing experiments with students. Ask your students to write an essay whether it may be a reflection essay or a reaction essay on the experiments they have witnessed or partake in. Let them cite out what they may have learned regarding the difference between a chemical change and a physical change. Not only is this a good way for you to know if your students have learned something, but it is also a good way to see how far they are able to grasp the subject.

3. Class Discussion

Another way of having to write out or having to use the topic chemical changes is through a class discussion. Writing the topic down and discussing it to the class. Of course this is what is usually the norm when it comes to scientific topics such as these.

4. Making Speeches

What better way to get creative in doing chemical changes than to make a speech about them? However, when you do discuss about chemical changes in the form of making speeches, you must remember to do your research first. It’s basically like defending your work to a panel of judges, except for this, you are not only telling them about your experiment, you are also going to be giving them new information or new discovery on that matter.

5. Do an Experiment

Lastly, the best way to really understand the use of a chemical change is to do an experiment about it. Whether it may be for class, for research, study or simply out of curiosity. The best way to really understand and see it is through an experiment. Of course, when doing the experiment, always be careful and cautious when handling the materials, especially the hazardous ones.

FAQs

What is a chemical change?

In science, a chemical change is defined as any particle or object that goes through a change that involves its elements, atoms and molecules to change into something else.

What are the three types of chemical change?

The three types of chemical change are biochemical change, organic chemical change and non-organic chemical change also called as inorganic chemical change.

Is there a difference between physical change and chemical change?

The difference between a chemical change to a physical change is that, in a physical change, the only thing that changes is the physical state of the object. Its chemical change stays the same. However, for the chemical change, the physical and chemical part of the object changes to something new.

This is the end of the article. I hope that you have learned something from it, as well as I hope that what information you may be seeking has been found. The same goes for any questions that may have been floating around, have all been answered.
