our
father

and

our
entire
family

When
Maria
joined
our
household
,
our
father
had
recently
been
diagnosed
with
mid
-
stage
Alzheimer
'
s
disease
.
She
managed
a
complex
medication
regimen
that
included
Donepezil
and
memantine
,
administered
insulin
injections
,
and
coordinated
directly
with
his
gerontologist
at
Beth
Israel
Deaconess
Medical
Center
.
She
prepared
nutritionally
balanced
,
low
-
sodium
meals
,
assisted
with
bathing
and
dressing
,
and
used
a
Hoyer
lift
for
safe
transfers
after
his
mobility
declined
in
2022.
What
distinguished
Maria
was
her
extraordinary
patience
and
emotional
intelligence
.
She
de
-
escalated
moments
of
sundowning
confusion
with
calm
,
creative
techniques
often
using
music
from
the
1940
s
to
reorient
our
father
rather
than
chemical
restraints
.
During
a
severe
winter
storm
in
February
2021,
when
we
were
unable
to
reach
the
house
for
three
days
,
she
independently
managed
a
power
outage
,
maintained
his
oxygen
concentrator
using
a
backup
generator
we
had
not
previously
tested
,
and
kept
us
updated
via
text
until
roads
cleared
.
We
believe
Maria
would
be
an
exceptional
addition
to
any
home
care
agency
or
private
household
.
The
care
she
provided
went
far
beyond
a
job
description
;
it
was
a
vocation
.
We
recommend
her
without
reservation
and
would
be
happy
