A self-signed certificate is a certificate that is signed by the person who created the certificate rather than a certified and trusted certificate authority. This kind of certificate can be hijacked allowing an attacker to view all the data sent. A self-signed certificate example can not be revoked like a signed and trusted certificate can.

What to Include in Your Own Certificate?

Making your own certificate is easy and can be fun to do. Here’s what to include in your certificate.

  • The title of your certificate
  • The logo (if any)
  • The presentation wording (Example: “Is hereby awarded to…”, “presented to…” but this is entirely up to you)
  • Your complete name (you could write it in bold text or you can use different fonts)
  • The reason for giving yourself a certificate
  • Include the complete data with the correct format (month / day / year)
  • Name of the person who acknowledges your certificate
  • His/her title
  • The signature of that person

Here are the few tips on writing your own certificate.

  • Use a clean and hard paper. Print your certificate in a clean and hard paper so that it would last long and still look good as new.
  • Use the appropriate title for your certificate. If you have achieved something, use the “Certificate of Achievement.” If you complete a program, you can use the title “Certificate of Completion.”
