Thank You
Dear colleagues,
Two weeks on, I still find myself smiling every time I think about my retirement send-off.
The speeches, the memories you all shared, and the overwhelming generosity of the gift
itself — the weekend cabin in the Berkshires — meant more to me than I can properly put
into words. Margaret and I have already booked our first weekend there in October, and I
know there will be a toast to every one of you beside that wood stove.
Twenty-six years is a long time to spend anywhere. It is long enough to watch a team grow
from six people to sixty, to hire young engineers who now run departments of their own,
and to learn that the best part of any job has never been the work itself but the people you
share it with. I have been fortunate in that regard beyond any measure.
Retirement brings a new kind of quiet, and I am still learning to settle into it. What makes it
easier is knowing I leave this place in such good hands. Thank you for the laughter, the late
nights, the coffee runs, and above all the friendship. This is not a farewell — you will be
hearing from me. And should you ever find yourselves in the Hudson Valley, our door is
always open.
With deepest gratitude,
Evelyn Hartley
