Thank You

Dear Mrs. Alvarez,
I wanted to write and thank you for everything you did for me this year. When I sat down to
write my college application essay last fall, I had pages of thoughts and no voice. Thank you for
staying after school those three afternoons — for asking the right questions, for crossing out
the words that weren’t mine, and for helping me realize that my story was worth telling.
More than the essay, though, I am grateful for the way you made our classroom feel like a
safe place — a place where it was okay to be wrong, to ask, to grow. You are the reason I have
decided to study journalism, and I hope, one day, to make you proud.
Thank you for believing in me before I believed in myself.
With deep gratitude,
Maya Rodriguez
