Dear Principal Rivera,
With the school year drawing to a close, I wanted to sit down and write the note I have been
meaning to send all year. Thank you for the way you lead Lincoln Elementary — the warmth you
bring sets the tone for the entire building, and our family has felt it every day since September.
When we moved to Springfield, Maya was quiet and nervous about starting fifth grade in a new
school. You learned her name within that first week, made a point of greeting her in the car loop
each morning, and in those first shaky weeks, you noticed before I ever had to say a word. That
might sound like a small thing, but to a ten-year-old starting over, it meant everything.
She comes home happy now, and she talks about Lincoln like it is her school — because you helped
make it feel that way. Thank you, for the school you have built and for the care you give every child
in it.
With gratitude,
Sarah Mitchell
