Dear Aunt Margaret,
I’ve been meaning to write this for weeks, but I wanted to
find the right words — and honestly, I already knew them:
thank you.
The blanket arrived on a cold Tuesday, and it hasn’t left the
back of my couch since. I know how many quiet evenings of
knitting went into it, and I think about that every time I wrap
myself in it. There is something a handmade gift carries that
nothing from a store ever can — it holds a little bit of its
maker, stitch by stitch.
I’ll take good care of it, the way you’ve always taken care of
me. Thank you for your time, your patience, and your gift.
With all my love,
Emily
P.S.
— Henry has already claimed the corner of the couch. He sends his
thanks, too.
