When you walk inside a facility, in an office, in school or in any organization, you might have notice a chart hanged or posted to a wall, or maybe pinned to a bulletin board. Basic chart examples like these usually consists of pictures of people in that organization and their titles.
These types of charts are what we most commonly know as an organizational chart. For many of us, it would have no significance or use. But for people in an organization, it is an essential diagram that shows the roles and responsibilities of a person who’s part of the organization.
As we all know, charts present numerical data and functions using graphs such as bar graphs and line graphs. But for an organizational chart, information is not like those charts mentioned. So what is an organizational chart?
Organizational charts are graphical diagrams showing the relationship between people making up an organization. This chart presents how an organization is structured as well as the roles and responsibilities of each people consisting the organization. Organizational charts are organized based on the level or rank of a person in that organization and which department he or she belongs.
Organizational charts are useful for showing people, who are part of the organization or not, how the organization is structured. These charts guide employees to know what their roles and responsibilities are and for which section they belong to.
With the use of this chart, it clearly shows the relationship between staffs of the organization. Organizational charts outlines the tasks which a person in that organization is responsible of doing. In case employees are not doing their responsibilities, it would also be easier for management to track their performances and their workloads are too much.
Organizational chart samples can be made using any software or tool in a computer. Aside from that, sample charts are highly accessible if you have a computer and an internet connection. We know that technology has done a perfect job in making things easier, but technology still needs man to direct it.
So how do we make an organizational chart?
The first thing to do when making an organizational chart is listing all the job descriptions of the people in the organization or their position. Once done, positions should be group according to departments, their ranks and their roles. Organizational charts must begin with the person of the highest rank going down to the people in the lowest level.
Most organization present their chart with the owner or the president on the very top followed by the people under his command. The flow goes on until the lowest level or rank.
After creating the structure, names of the people part of that organization should also be presented in the organizational chart and titles should be indicated below each person of the organization. Organizational charts may vary as to how large or small the organization is.
