Apple has set an ambitious goal to be carbon neutral across its entire global supply chain

and product life cycle by 2030. This commitment drives every aspect of our operations,

from the materials we source to the energy that powers our manufacturing partners. Our

strategy is built on three pillars: low-carbon design, energy efficiency, and clean electricity.

Supplier Clean Energy Program

The Supplier Clean Energy Program is the engine of our supply chain decarbonization. We

work closely with over 300 manufacturing partners to transition to 100% renewable

electricity. In 2023 alone, our suppliers generated over 25.5 million megawatt-hours of

clean energy globally.

Suppliers Transitioning to 100% Renewable

The transition to clean energy is a shared journey. We work with our manufacturing

partners to source renewable electricity through power purchase agreements (PPAs),

direct investments in renewable projects, and high-quality energy certificates.

Closing the Loop: Circular

Manufacturing

Our goal is to one day use only recycled and renewable materials in our products. We are

making significant progress with key commodities. By 2025, Apple will use 100% recycled

cobalt in all Apple-designed batteries and 100% recycled tin soldering and gold plating in

all Apple-designed rigid printed circuit boards.

Advancing Recycled Gold and Cobalt

Apple has achieved historic milestones in material sourcing. For the first time, 100% of the

gold used in the plating of multiple printed circuit boards—including those for iPhone 15

and iPhone 16 series—is certified recycled. Additionally, our push for recycled cobalt is

setting a new standard for battery manufacturing worldwide.

The Rare Earth Challenge

Rare earth elements are essential for the high-performance magnets found in our haptic

engines and speakers. We have successfully transitioned nearly 100% of these elements to

recycled sources, dramatically reducing the environmental footprint of our most complex

components.

A Net Zero Future

Our roadmap is not just about reduction—it's about neutralization. By 2030, we will have

reduced emissions by 75% from 2015 levels and addressed the remaining 25% through

high-quality carbon removal projects that protect and restore vital ecosystems.
