A career changer’s story
After seven years teaching middle school in Austin, I’m building a second
career as a software developer — a shift I started two years ago with one free
online course and a lot of late nights. I’ve since finished a full-stack bootcamp,
earned my AWS Cloud Practitioner certification, and shipped three side
projects, including a gradebook app that a few of my former colleagues still
use every day. Teaching taught me to break complicated ideas into steps
anyone can follow, to communicate with all kinds of people, and to stay calm
when something isn’t working — habits that turn out to be exactly what
debugging and product teams demand. I’m looking for an entry-level
engineering role where I can pair that clarity and patience with a genuine
appetite to keep learning.
