ABOUT ME
I’ve been teaching high school English in Portland
Public Schools for eight years, and I still get a small thrill
when a student who “hates reading” finishes a book
they chose. I teach ninth-grade literature and AP English
Literature, and I design my classroom around one belief:
students do their best thinking when they feel safe
enough to be wrong.
I care about building curriculum that reflects the
students in the room — their voices, their questions,
their neighborhoods. Outside of class, I sponsor the
school’s Creative Writing Club, serve on the district
literacy committee, and mentor first- and second-year
teachers through the PPS New Educator Network. I’m
currently looking for an instructional coach or
department-lead role where I can support other teachers
the way my mentors supported me.
