ABOUT ME
A doctor who listens first — and a practice built
around that simple idea.
I’m Dr. Daniel Mercer, an internal medicine physician and the founder of
Westlake Internal Medicine in Austin, Texas. I opened the practice in 2017
on a fairly straightforward conviction: good primary care begins with an
unhurried conversation and a doctor who knows your name.
Internal medicine is the specialty devoted to adult health — preventing,
diagnosing, and treating the full range of adult diseases. Over the past
decade, I’ve cared for patients from their first year of college to their
nineties, and the lesson has been the same every time: medicine works
best when it is collaborative, continuous, and built on trust.
My Philosophy of Care
I listen first and treat second. My role is not to make decisions for
you, but to make certain you understand your health well enough to
make confident ones. If you leave my office with a prescription but
no understanding of why you’re taking it, I’ve done only half my job.
