How to Format Your Resignation Letter Format

We are going to discuss how you should format your short resignation letter:

Let’s divide your short resignation letter into six parts: the heading, the inside address, the salutation, the body of the letter, the complimentary close, and the signature line.

1. The Heading

This part of the short resignation letter that contains the return address that usually comes in two or three lines and the date is found on the second or third line. Some letters include a space after the return address and before the date. You might be interested in appointment letter examples & samples.

This part is where the sender of the letter would include his or her address, his or her phone number, fax number, or e-mail address. It is not anymore necessary to include this part of the short resignation letter if you are going to print this letter on a letterhead that already contains your article. You may also see examples of writing an acknowledgment of resignation letter.

2. The Inside Address

3. The Greeting

This part of the short resignation letter where you will express your greeting. This part is also called the salutation. Your greetings should be formal. Usually, it begins with Dear, followed by the title and the receiver’s last name. You may also see complaint letter examples & samples.

Make sure you know the exact title of the receiver of your short resignation letter. The usual titles are Mr., Mrs., Ms. or Miss. And if the receiver has a special title such as Dr., Prof., Atty., Engr., among others, make sure you use this title instead of just mentioning the usual ones. End the greeting with a colon since resignation letters are also business letters and should not end with a comma. You may also see resignation notice letter examples.

4. The Body of the Letter

The body of your short resignation letter is suggested to have at least three paragraphs.

On the first paragraph, it is where you will be expressing your intent to resign, the last day of your work and other important details

The second paragraph is where you will express your gratitude to your employer for all the learning and challenges that you have acquired from your employment. You may also like Examples on how to write a relocation resignation letter.
