My work explores the power of storytelling as a means of preserving history, challenging
injustice, and celebrating the richness of everyday life. Through painting, quilts, and mixed
media, I combine visual imagery with written narratives to examine the experiences of
individuals and communities whose voices have too often been overlooked. I believe art has the
ability to connect personal memory with collective history, creating space for dialogue,
understanding, and change.
Narrative is at the heart of my practice. I use stories to explore themes of identity, family, race,
gender, and belonging, weaving together personal experiences with broader social and
historical contexts. By integrating text and image, I invite viewers to engage with each work as
both a visual composition and a lived experience, where every element contributes to a larger
conversation about humanity and resilience.
My work draws inspiration from African American history, folk traditions, quilting, and the cultural
practices passed through generations. I am interested in transforming familiar materials into
powerful forms of artistic expression, elevating craft as an essential part of contemporary art.
The quilt becomes more than a functional object; it serves as a vessel for memory, history, and
the voices of those whose stories deserve to be remembered.
Colour, pattern, and composition define my visual language. I use vibrant palettes, symbolic
imagery, and expressive forms to celebrate joy, creativity, and cultural identity while also
addressing difficult subjects with honesty and compassion. My work seeks to balance beauty
with social reflection, encouraging viewers to consider both the challenges and the possibilities
that shape our shared experiences.
Community and education have always been integral to my practice. I believe art should be
accessible, inclusive, and capable of inspiring people of all ages to imagine new futures.
Through storytelling and visual expression, I strive to create works that encourage empathy,
