My work explores the complexities of identity, society, and the stories people tell about
themselves. I am interested in how everyday objects can carry personal histories and cultural
values, using ceramics, tapestry, and mixed media to examine themes of class, gender, family,
and belonging. Through narrative imagery and symbolic decoration, I create works that
encourage reflection on the beliefs, traditions, and social structures that shape contemporary
life.
Storytelling is central to my practice. I use richly detailed surfaces, layered symbols, and visual
narratives to reveal the relationships between personal experience and collective culture. My
works often combine humour, irony, and observation, inviting viewers to engage with familiar
subjects while questioning assumptions about identity, taste, and social expectation. Each
object becomes both a functional form and a vehicle for complex human stories.
I draw inspiration from historical ceramics, folk traditions, mythology, popular culture, and
everyday life. By blending references from different periods and cultures, I explore the ways
objects preserve memory and communicate shared experiences across generations. Traditional
craft techniques become a means of addressing contemporary issues, demonstrating how
historical forms can remain relevant within modern artistic practice.
Decoration, colour, and craftsmanship define my visual language. I embrace ornamentation as a
powerful form of expression, using intricate patterns and carefully constructed imagery to
balance beauty with critical reflection. Through hand-built forms and detailed surfaces, I seek to
create works that reward close observation while revealing multiple layers of meaning beneath
their decorative appearance.
Craft occupies a central place in my artistic approach. I challenge the conventional boundaries
between fine art and applied art, celebrating ceramics and textiles as mediums capable of
addressing significant cultural and social questions. By elevating traditional craftsmanship within
a contemporary context, I explore the enduring relationship between making, identity, and
cultural expression.
