Good evening — I’m Maya, Julia’s cousin. Keeper of roughly seven hundred childhood photos of her, all
of which I promised not to show.
We grew up like sisters. Every summer at the lake house, Julia was the one who got us into trouble —
and, just as reliably, the one who got us out of it. She leaps first, and somehow, she always lands on
her feet.
So when she met Nathan, I wasn’t surprised she fell. I was surprised how peaceful she looked. He
matches her energy, laughs at her jokes, and dances with her when no one else is dancing. He loves
her exactly as she is — a little chaotic, a lot wonderful.
Nathan, welcome to the family. Fair warning: we’re loud, we hug too long, and we cry at everything.
But we love hard — and we already love you.
Julia, I’ve never seen you this happy. That is all I ever wanted for you.
