Emma & James
Good evening, everyone. I'm Olivia, Emma's younger sister — and the unofficial
keeper of every embarrassing childhood story. Don't worry: I've been handsomely paid
to behave myself. Mostly.
Emma and I shared a room for sixteen years, so I knew her long before she fully knew
herself. I've watched her conquer school plays, calculus, and a pair of ridiculously high
heels she insisted on wearing to prom. But in all those years, I have never seen her look
the way she looks tonight — radiant, peaceful, completely and unreservedly happy.
And
I
know
exactly
who
to
thank
for
that
.
James
.
When Emma first told me about you, she said you made her laugh so hard she snorted
in a crowded café. And I thought to myself,
this one is special
. You see, Emma is the one
who always catches everyone else — the planner, the caretaker, the first to show up.
What I love most about watching you two is seeing her finally be the one who is
caught. You look at her like she hung the moon, and for the first time, she truly
believes it.
James, welcome to our family. Fair warning: Sunday dinners are non-negotiable, my
mother will never let you leave hungry, and I will always be her first phone call. But we
could not be happier that you are one of us now.
Emma — you have always been my home. Tonight, I am so glad you have found yours.
Everyone, please join me in raising your glasses: to Emma and James. To ordinary
Tuesdays and extraordinary adventures. To a lifetime of love that grows deeper with
every passing year. Cheers!
