Good
evening
,
everyone
.
For
those
who
don
’
t
know
me
,
I
’
m
Rachel
—
a
family
friend
of
the
bride
.
I
’
ve
been
fortunate
enough
to
share
so
many
Sunday
dinners
at
Sofia
’
s
family
table
that
they
no
longer
call
me
a
guest
.
To
be
invited
to
stand
here
on
their
wedding
day
is
one
of
the
greatest
honors
I
have
ever
known
.
I
could
entertain
you
with
childhood
stories
of
Sofia
—
I
have
several
,
including
one
involving
a
school
play
,
an
unfortunate
hat
,
and
a
surprise
rescue
by
a
very
kind
math
teacher
.
But
Sofia
has
made
it
very
clear
that
this
evening
belongs
to
her
and
Ethan
,
so
instead
I
’
ll
tell
you
about
the
first
time
I
met
him
.
When
Sofia
first
told
me
about
Ethan
,
she
was
careful
.
He
was
,
she
said
,
nice
.
He
was
an
engineer
.
He
was
quite
tall
.
And
then
she
mentioned
him
—
I
am
not
exaggerating
—
eleven
more
times
before
dessert
.
When
we
finally
met
,
I
understood
right
away
.
Ethan
is
the
sort
of
person
who
truly
listens
,
and
who
makes
everyone
around
him
feel
quietly
at
ease
.
He
remembers
the
small
things
:
a
song
she
mentioned
once
,
a
joke
only
half
told
,
the
names
of
all
of
Sofia
’
s
childhood
friends
.
But
what
I
treasure
most
is
who
Sofia
becomes
beside
him
.
Sofia
has
always
been
a
person
of
plans
and
order
—
color
-
coded
,
cross
-
referenced
,
beautifully
organized
.
With
Ethan
,
she
laughs
with
her
whole
body
,
dances
like
no
one
is
watching
,
and
is
entirely
,
peacefully
herself
.
He
is
not
merely
her
partner
;
he
is
her
home
.
Sofia
and
Ethan
—
today
you
begin
a
marriage
built
on
the
rarest
of
foundations
:
you
genuinely
like
each
other
,
and
it
shows
.
May
you
never
stop
.
May
your
home
always
be
full
of
friends
,
your
table
always
set
for
one
more
,
and
every
ordinary
Tuesday
feel
like
a
small
adventure
.

Please
raise
your
glasses
with
me
.
To
Sofia
&
Ethan
May
you
always
be
each
other
’
s
favorite
hello
—
and
your
hardest
goodbye
.
with love, Rachel
