Netflix is a subscription-based streaming service for watching TV shows and movies on internet-connected

devices. Supported devices can include smart TVs, game consoles, streaming media players, cable boxes,

smartphones, tablets, and computers using a web browser.

The exact catalog, plan features, device support, and availability can vary by country and can change over time.

1. Signing in

Open the Netflix app or website and select

. Depending on the device, you may sign in with the primary

account email or phone number, or use a sign-in code.

TV or TV streaming device

• Open Netflix and choose Sign In.

• On supported TVs, use your phone camera to scan the QR code and follow the sign-in prompt.

• Alternatively, use the on-screen browser flow or enter your credentials with the remote.

Phone or tablet

• Open the Netflix app and select Sign In.

• Enter the email address or primary account phone number.

• Enter the four-digit sign-in code sent by email or text, or choose the password option when available.

Computer

• Go to the Netflix website and select Sign In.

• Enter the email address or primary account phone number.

• Use the sign-in code or password option presented.

2. Creating profiles

Profiles let members of a household have separate Netflix experiences. A Netflix account can have up to

five

profiles

. Each profile can have its own maturity settings and recommendations based on viewing activity and

tastes.

Create a profile

• Open the profile selection screen and choose Add Profile.

• Enter a profile name.

• For a child, select the Kids option when available.

• Save the profile and select it when you want to watch using that profile.

Switch profiles

On TVs and streaming devices, open the profile menu and select another profile. On phones and tablets, open

Netflix

, tap the profile name, and choose another profile. On the web, open the profile menu and select the desired

profile.

Parental controls can be managed for individual profiles. Options include creating a Kids profile, setting maturity

ratings or blocking titles, locking profiles with a PIN, controlling autoplay behavior, and reviewing viewing history.

3. Finding TV shows and movies

Search for a specific title or browse suggestions presented by Netflix. As you watch and rate titles,

recommendations are tailored to the profile.

Audio, subtitles, and captions

Many titles provide subtitles, captions, or alternate audio. Where available, you can select a preferred subtitle or

audio language while watching or browse titles according to language preferences.

Viewing history

To review a profile's viewing activity, open the Account page in a web browser, select Profiles, choose the profile,

and open Viewing activity. Viewing history can also be downloaded as a file.

4. Managing your account

Account information and membership settings can be managed from the Netflix Account area. Depending on the

setting, you can update contact information, change your membership plan, manage profile controls, and review

device activity.

5. Membership and plan basics

Netflix plans determine how many supported devices can watch at the same time and may determine available

video quality and download-device limits. Plan names, prices, features, and availability vary by country and can

change.

For the current U.S. plan structure, Netflix lists Standard with ads, Standard, and Premium, with differences in

simultaneous screens, video quality, downloads, and other features. These details are market-specific and should

not be treated as universal pricing or availability.

Memberships are billed monthly on the date the subscription began. Netflix allows members to change plans or

cancel online.

6. Streaming on different devices

You can switch between Netflix-compatible devices. Your membership plan controls the number of screens that

can watch at the same time; it does not simply impose a fixed number of devices that can be associated with the

account.

To use a new compatible device, sign in to Netflix on that device. Some devices may require the Netflix app to be

downloaded first.

If the maximum number of simultaneous screens allowed by the plan is reached, Netflix may display a message

that the account is already in use. Stop playback on another device, or use a plan that permits more simultaneous

viewing.

7. Watching on the go

Netflix can be accessed in more than 190 countries, although the catalog and available features can vary by

location.

Download titles for offline viewing

If you expect to be without an internet connection, download supported TV shows or movies in the Netflix app.

Download availability and the number of devices allowed for downloads depend on the membership plan and title.

Traveling or moving

When using Netflix from another location, device and household checks may apply. On some TVs or TV streaming

8. Quick troubleshooting

Situation

First checks

Can't sign in

Confirm the email or phone number, use the current sign-in code or password method,

and follow Netflix sign-in troubleshooting.

New device

Open Netflix on the device and sign in. Check whether the device requires the Netflix app.

Too many simultaneous viewers

Stop playback on another device and wait briefly before trying again, or review plan

options.

Downloads unavailable

Check the title's download availability, profile restrictions, and the plan's download-device

limit.

Device not part of household

Follow the on-screen household or temporary-access instructions when traveling or away

from home.
