Short-Term Goals
A focused 90-day action list for emerging and current leaders who want to
build lasting leadership habits, strengthen team trust, and increase their
impact — one measurable behavior at a time.
01
SELF-AWARENESS & PERSONAL GROWTH
1
Define your 90-day leadership intent
Write one paragraph describing the leader you want to be known as at the end of
the quarter — and the two or three behaviors you will practice daily to get there.
2
Conduct a working-week time audit
Log how you spend your time for one full week. Identify at least 5 hours that can
shift from individual-contributor work to team leadership: coaching, strategy, and
removal of obstacles.
3
Ask for structured 360° feedback
Request a short “start, stop, continue” review from your manager, one peer, and
one direct report. Summarize what you heard and share your action plan with
them.
4
Build a weekly reflection practice
Schedule 20 problem-free minutes each week to review decisions, difficult
conversations, and reactions. Capture one thing to repeat and one thing to
change.
02
COMMUNICATION & TRUST
5
Hold one purposeful 1:1 with every direct report
Make each 1:1 a recurring calendar block with a shared agenda. Listen roughly
70% of the time and close every conversation with one clear action and owner.
6
Shift from advice to questions
In team discussions, ask at least two clarifying questions before offering your
opinion. Suspend the urge to solve — let the team reason through the challenge
first.
7
Communicate the “why” before the “what”
For every new delegation or request, explain the context, the outcome you need,
and why it matters. Confirm understanding before the conversation ends.
8
Publish a weekly state-of-the-team update
Send a short, honest update covering wins, current priorities, decisions made, and
where you need help — keeping the whole team aligned on the same facts.
