ce Attendance Memo
1. OPERATIONAL OBJECTIVE AND CONTEXT
IBM is focused on providing a work environment that balances
fl
exibility with the critical face-to-face interactions that
make us more productive, innovative, and better equipped to serve our enterprise clients. Direct collaboration,
apprenticeship, and cross-functional synergy thrive when leadership is co-located with their operational teams.
This
IBM O
ffi
ce Attendance Memo
formalizes company-wide attendance governance, establishes mandatory on-site
thresholds for executives and people managers, and details attendance assessment mechanisms across our global
business units.
2. CORE ATTENDANCE EXPECTATIONS: 3-DAY MINIMUM
To support organizational cohesion and delivery excellence, all individuals with managerial responsibilities must
comply with baseline presence standards:
Three-Day In-Person Standard:
All managers, regardless of their current work location status, are required to
report to an assigned IBM o
ffi
ce facility or client location at least three days per week.
Geographic Proximity and Relocation:
Managers currently working remotely who do not live within reasonable
commuting distance (typically within a 50-mile / 80-kilometer radius of an active IBM site) must relocate near an
assigned o
ffi
ce.
Separation Parameter:
Managers who do not relocate and cannot secure an executive-approved remote-
designated role must separate from IBM in accordance with standard separation protocols.
Executive Perspective:
In-person collaboration is vital for career development and client trust. As CEO Arvind Krishna
has highlighted, being physically present accelerates professional mentorship and ensures that leaders actively model
company values for rising talent.
3. ATTENDANCE VERIFICATION VIA BADGE DATA
Individual compliance will be tracked through automated physical access records. Badge-in data will be analyzed to
assess individual presence and shared directly with business unit managers and Human Resources on a weekly
basis.
