GLOBAL OPERATIONS
OPERATIONAL MEMORANDUM
Driver Safety & Platform Risk Operations
TO:
All Driver Partners, Fleet Operators & City Operations Leads
FROM:
Global Head of Trust & Safety & VP of Mobility Operations
DATE:
September 18, 2026
SUBJECT:
Uber Driver Safety Memo
1. PURPOSE & CORE COMMITMENT
At Uber, safety is foundational to every ride, every delivery, and every city we serve. Drivers and couriers are the
backbone of our platform. Ensuring they are protected from violence, vehicle collision risks, road harassment, and
fraudulent interactions is our highest operational priority.
This
Uber Driver Safety Memo
standardizes safety expectations, reviews in-app security tooling, and establishes
decisive protocols for incident response across our global rideshare and delivery network.
2. KEY SAFETY TOOLS & IN-APP CAPABILITIES
Uber has built industry-leading safety technology directly into the driver application. Every driver partner is expected to
know and utilize these resources:
In-App Emergency Button (911/112 Integration):
Directly contacts local emergency authorities while showing
real-time GPS coordinates, vehicle make/model, and license plate on screen to share instantly with dispatchers.
Audio Recording:
Enables encrypted in-app audio recording during any trip. Recordings remain sealed and cannot
be accessed by driver or rider unless submitted as part of a formal safety report.
RideCheck
™
Incident Detection:
Telematics and GPS algorithms detect long stops, route anomalies, or potential
vehicle impacts, proactively pinging both driver and passenger to initiate emergency services or road support.
Record My Ride (Dashcam Integration):
Allows drivers to register smartphone front-facing cameras or third-party
dashcams within the app for veri
fi
ed digital footage submission during investigations.
Safety First Principle:
Drivers have the absolute right to cancel or end any trip immediately if they feel unsafe or
experience aggressive, discriminatory, or harassing behavior from riders. Such cancellations will never negatively
impact driver rating or platform standing.
3. PUNCTUALITY & FATIGUE MANAGEMENT RULES
Driver alertness is essential to avoiding preventable road accidents. The Uber platform strictly enforces an automated
driving hour limit: after 12 cumulative hours of driving time, the driver app automatically disconnects for an
uninterrupted 6-hour rest reset window.
