EXECUTIVE DIRECTIVE
Internal Policy & Operational E

TO:
All Tesla Employees, Engineering Teams & Production Leadership

SUBJECT:
Tesla Employee Operational Principles & Execution Excellence
1. PURPOSE & MISSION IMPERATIVE
Tesla
’
s mission is to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy. We are solving some of the most di
ffi
cult
engineering and manufacturing problems in history across electric vehicles, energy storage, autonomous driving, and
humanoid robotics. Ful
fi
lling this mission requires intense focus, high urgency, and the complete elimination of
bureaucratic overhead.
This directive establishes operational guidelines for all team members, reinforcing our core productivity rules, direct
cross-functional communication protocols, and in-person collaboration standards across all Gigafactories and
development centers.
2. FOUNDATIONAL PRODUCTIVITY PRINCIPLES
To preserve high-velocity execution and eliminate wasted effort, all employees and managers must follow these
operational rules:
Eliminate Excessive Meetings:
Large-format meetings are a major drain on high-performance talent. Unless a
large audience is critical for high-stakes coordination, meetings should be kept small, brief, and action-oriented.
Leave When Adding No Value:
If you
fi
nd yourself in a meeting where you are neither contributing nor learning,
walk out or drop off the call immediately. Leaving is respectful; forcing someone to waste time is not.
Banish Jargon & Acronyms:
Do not invent acronyms or obscure terminology for parts, software components, or
processes. Clear, plain language prevents misunderstandings and accelerates cross-functional onboarding.
Direct Communication Over Hierarchy:
Anyone at Tesla is expected to talk or write directly to anyone else to solve
an issue immediately. Routing messages through formal chains of command is strictly prohibited.
First Principles Execution:
Always reason from
fi
rst principles rather than analogy. If a company rule or traditional
procedure clearly makes no sense in a speci
fi
c scenario, the rule must be challenged and updated.
3. ON-SITE PRESENCE & MANUFACTURING PROXIMITY
Exceptional hardware engineering, production scaling, and software integration require high physical density.
Employees are expected to work directly out of their assigned primary factory or engineering o
ffi
ce. Proximity to the
factory line ensures issues are identi
fi
ed and resolved in real time.
