CORPORATE MEMORANDUM
Strategic Reprioritization & Restructuring Directive
TO:
All Global Snap Team Members, Departmental Leads & Operations Personnel
FROM:
Evan Spiegel, Chief Executive O
ffi
cer & The Executive Leadership Team
DATE:
September 21, 2026
SUBJECT:
Snapchat Employee Layoff Directive: Organizational Restructuring, Strategic Refocus &
Team Transition
1. PURPOSE & STRATEGIC REFOCUS
Over the past year, macroeconomic headwinds, platform privacy landscape shifts, and accelerated industry
competition have altered our operating environment. While our community has grown to over 800 million monthly
active users, our revenue trajectory has not kept pace with historical headcount and project expansion. To ensure
long-term sustainability and position Snap for future pro
fi
table growth, we must make decisive operational
adjustments.
Today, we are announcing a reduction of our global team by approximately 10%. We are concentrating all of our
resources around three strategic priorities: growing our community and deepening engagement, accelerating and
diversifying our direct-response advertising business, and investing in long-term augmented reality leadership.
2. DEPRIORITIZED INITIATIVES & ORGANIZATIONAL REALIGNMENT
Refocusing our resources means making di
ffi
cult choices to discontinue investments that do not directly contribute
to our core pillars. Consequently, we are sunsetting several standalone initiatives and restructuring impacted
divisions:
Sunsetting Standalone Hardware & Ancillary Apps:
Winding down speculative non-AR hardware projects and non-
core content efforts to concentrate solely on Spectacles AR glasses.
Flattening Management Hierarchy:
Reducing intermediate management layers across product, engineering, and
regional sales organizations to accelerate decision speed and lower bureaucratic friction.
Centralizing Global Sales & Partner Solutions:
Realigning regional commercial sales squads into specialized
vertical clusters focused on performance direct-response (DR) advertisers.
Consolidating Infrastructure Engineering:
Streamlining cloud storage and compute expenditures across Amazon
Web Services and Google Cloud, optimizing model training work
fl
ows.
Executive Statement:
Letting go of talented team members who have helped build Snapchat into a beloved global
platform is the hardest decision a leader faces. We take full accountability for the decisions that brought us here, and
we are committed to supporting departing colleagues with deep gratitude and comprehensive transition assistance.
3. NOTIFICATION WORKFLOW & COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL
All impacted team members will receive a calendar invitation within the next two hours for an individual 1-on-1
meeting with their department lead and a People Team partner to discuss speci
fi
c severance packages, equity
vesting, healthcare continuation, and immigration support.
