This method gives criteria to guide the individual into setting up realistic goals to achieve. As well as teaching the individual a way to time manage different sets of goals. The SMART method is a helpful way to set your goals into action.

An action plan is a list of instructions you follow to solve a problem. A set of tasks you do to complete a simple project or to achieve something. An action plan helps you organize your plans and to set them in motion. It gives you an objective to follow the steps to gaining your goal.

Use of S.M.A.R.T.

The use of this method is to plan and to achieve your goals. Since this method breaks down your goals in a specific and time bound manner. This method also helps you focus on what you believe is more important as well as managing your time and effort in achieving that goal. By using this method, you should be specific with your actions, it should be achievable or attainable, relevant to your goals as well as learning to manage time. How long are you planning on reaching that goal?

Tips for Achieving your Action Plan

  • Write objectives- List down some objectives you want to achieve. Remember to make them as specific and realistic as possible.
  • Set some steps- The steps could be a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10. The only thing you need to remember is to follow through with your steps. They do not necessarily have to be in order as long as you have done them to the best of your ability.
  • Follow through with your plans- Avoid doubting yourself.  Obstacles are always in the way but keep your head in the game. Keep your goals straight.
  • Don’t give up- As stated in the third tip, do not give up. Your goals are way important. Do not sell yourself short. Plan ahead, do the action.
  • Set a deadline- Set a deadline for each plan and goal. Not only does this follow the SMART method, it also helps you maintain the objective to reach your goal. There may be some obstacles in the way but this is also part of setting your deadline. To make it to the deadline, you will need to work hard for it.
