What Is a Blank Checklist?

The term “blank checklist template” refers to a checklist which is yet to be filled out by the user. Though, it is not literally a blank sheet of paper, a blank checklist is considered blank since it does not contain any information other than the indicators (e.g. labels, descriptions, tick boxes, etc.) of the space which the user needs to fill out.

Despite the term, a blank checklist may also contain a list of things to be considered by the user and blank lines for the remarks.

Purpose of a Checklist

In this day and age, multitasking is a trend. Because of a very tight daily schedule, people have the urge to do several things at a time to increase productivity. However, doing such can get really challenging as time goes by, sometimes leading to confusion or worse.

Also, it’s not a secret that multitasking is not healthy for the human brain, and focusing on one task at a time is greatly advised. Despite knowing this, people still want to make the most out of every day. This is the primary purpose of a checklist—to expand the limits of the human brain’s memory space. Checklists, in a way, provided humans an effective way of multitasking.

Uses of a Blank Checklist

A printable checklist, just like any other type of checklists can be used for just about anything. Because it’s blank, the user has the freedom to input whatever he/she deems necessary.

And because of its simple template, anyone can easily use it at any time, and in any place. Also, the user is free to choose where to use it, as long as it helps him/her improve his overall productivity and performance. The key is to use it properly to your advantage.

How to Create a Blank Checklist

The format of a blank checklist varies depending on which task or things the user wants to consider. Of course, there are no standard rules on how to create one. Still, you might find the following things useful in creating a blank checklist of your own.

  • Always keep a goal in mind when creating your checklist.
  • Create a list of things for consideration.
  • Simplify the design or format.
  • Organize your checklist. You can arrange the items on your list in order, or enclose them in a table.
  • Include guide statements. For example, guidelines in using your checklist, or descriptions for each item.
  • Improve your checklist from time to time. Every now and then, you’ll find something which will help you improve your checklist over time.
