1. Strategic Foundation
McKesson's current strategy increasingly emphasizes higher-growth, differentiated healthcare businesses alongside its large-scale U.S.
pharmaceutical distribution platform. The company's 2025 strategic update and 2026 results point to continued investment in Oncology &
Multispecialty, technology-enabled healthcare services and disciplined portfolio management.
Core strategic flywheel
Portfolio focus
→
redeploy resources toward differentiated healthcare platforms
→
oncology & multispecialty scale
→
add precision
medicine and clinical-research capabilities
→
stronger biopharma services
→
expand recurring, higher-value growth opportunities.
Oncology platform
The US Oncology Network provides practice-management, clinical research, precision medicine, payer strategy and other services to
community oncology. McKesson's current disclosures describe a network supporting more than 3,300 providers across 700+ sites in 29
states and more than 1.6 million patients annually.
Precision Medicine Group transaction
On August 25, 2026, McKesson announced a definitive agreement to acquire Precision Medicine Group for approximately $2.25 billion. The
transaction is designed to strengthen clinical research and biopharma commercialization capabilities. It remains subject to customary
closing conditions and regulatory clearances, so this plan treats integration as a forward execution phase rather than a completed outcome.
Portfolio simplification
McKesson completed the sale of its Norwegian retail and distribution businesses on January 30, 2026, completing its exit from European
operations. This action is treated here as a capital-and-focus reallocation milestone rather than proof that every proceeds dollar is
earmarked for oncology.
