How to Use the AI Story Generator
Step 1: Enter a Story Idea or Premise
- Story Idea / Premise: Type the seed of your story in the main text field. This can be a single sentence (“A lighthouse keeper finds a message in a bottle that changes everything”) or a more detailed brief describing characters, setting, and conflict.
Step 2: Choose a Genre
- Genre: Select the category your story belongs to — Fantasy, Science Fiction, Mystery, Romance, Horror, Adventure, Drama, Comedy, Thriller, Fairy Tale, Historical Fiction, or Slice of Life. Adventure is selected by default.
Step 3: Set the Tone
- Tone: Choose the emotional register of the story — Whimsical, Dark, Humorous, Serious, Uplifting, Suspenseful, Romantic, or Melancholic. Uplifting is selected by default.
Step 4: Pick a Length and Point of View
- Length: Choose Short, Medium, or Long depending on how developed you want the story to be. Medium is selected by default.
- Point of View: Choose First Person, Third Person Limited, or Third Person Omniscient. Third Person Limited is selected by default.
Step 5: Pick a Language
- Language: Choose the output language from 15 supported options, including English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Arabic, Japanese, and more.
Step 6: Upload a File (Optional)
- Upload File to Extract Premise: Optionally upload a .txt, .md, .pdf, .doc, .docx, .odt, or .html file (up to 2MB). The extracted text is automatically added to the Premise field, so you can turn notes, a synopsis, or an existing draft into a full story instead of typing everything manually.
Step 7: Generate Your Story
- Generate Button: Click the purple “Generate Free Story” button. The AI writes a complete short story with a title, a clear beginning, middle, and end, and dialogue where it strengthens the scene — matched to your chosen genre, tone, point of view, and length.
Step 8: Copy or Download Your Story
- Copy / Download: Use the “Copy All” button to copy the finished story to your clipboard, or use the “Download” menu to save it as a TXT, Word, or PDF file. A word or character count is shown above the result, with automatic character counting for languages like Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.
AI Story Generator Formula
The AI Story Generator follows a structured input-to-output process to produce a complete, polished short story:
Story Quality = Premise Clarity + Genre and Tone Fit + Narrative Structure + Point of View Consistency
Where:
- Premise Clarity is how specific and well-defined your story idea or uploaded material is
- Genre and Tone Fit is how closely the finished story matches your selected genre and emotional register
- Narrative Structure is whether the story has a clear beginning, middle, and a satisfying end tied back to the premise
- Point of View Consistency is whether the chosen narrative perspective and tense are maintained throughout
The more specific your premise, the more distinctive and coherent the generated story will be.

Does the AI Story Generator write in lists or headings like an article?
No. Unlike content-writing tools, the AI Story Generator is built specifically for fiction. It never uses bullet points, numbered lists, or article-style subheadings inside the story itself — only flowing narrative paragraphs, dialogue, and a single title, the way a published short story is written.
Is the generated story appropriate and safe to publish?
The AI is instructed to avoid explicit sexual content involving minors, graphic gore or torture, and real, named public figures as characters, and to suggest intensity through implication rather than explicit detail even in darker genres like horror or thriller. That said, always review generated stories before publishing, especially for younger audiences.
Can I generate stories in languages other than English?
Yes. The Language dropdown supports 15 languages, including Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Hindi, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Korean, Russian, Turkish, and Indonesian. For languages like Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, the tool automatically switches to counting characters instead of words, since those languages don’t use spaces between words.
Can I upload a file instead of typing a premise?
Yes. Use the “Upload File to Extract Premise” field to upload a .txt, .md, .pdf, .doc, .docx, .odt, or .html file up to 2MB. The extracted text is added directly to the Premise field, so you can turn an existing synopsis, outline, or draft into a full story instead of retyping it.
What is the difference between Short, Medium, and Long?
Short produces tight flash fiction, ideal for a single scene or twist. Medium produces a standard short story with a full arc, suitable for most creative writing needs. Long produces a fully developed story with a wider cast, more scenes, and a slower emotional build.
Can I edit the generated story afterward?
Yes. Once generated, copy the story to your clipboard using “Copy All,” or download it as TXT, Word, or PDF, then edit it in your preferred word processor, CMS, or text editor before publishing.
