Free AI Summary Generator

Turn long text into a clear, accurate summary in seconds with the Examples.com AI Summarizer. Paste your text or upload a file, choose a summary type, tone, and length, and let AI condense it into exactly the format you need — no added facts, no filler, no misrepresented claims.

How to Use the AI Summarizer

Step 1: Paste or Upload the Text You Want to Summarize

  • Text to Summarize: Paste an article, report, email thread, or any long text into the main text field. You can also drag and drop or browse for a file (TXT, PDF, or Word document) up to 2MB, and the tool will load its content automatically.

Step 2: Choose a Summary Type

  • Summary Type: Select Paragraph Summary, Bullet Points, Executive Summary, TL;DR (One Sentence), Key Takeaways, or Abstract. Each type follows its own real-world structure — a TL;DR is always exactly one sentence, an Executive Summary covers purpose, findings, and implication, and an Abstract uses dense academic style. Paragraph Summary is selected by default.

Step 3: Choose a Tone

  • Tone: Select Neutral & Balanced, Formal & Professional, Casual & Conversational, Simplified & Easy-to-Read, or Technical & Precise. Neutral & Balanced is selected by default.

Step 4: Choose a Length and Audience

  • Summary Length: Choose Short, Medium, or Long. Medium is selected by default. (Length doesn’t apply to TL;DR, which is always a single sentence.)
  • Best For: Select who the summary is for — General Readers, Students / Academic, Business Professionals, Researchers, Social Media / Quick Read, or Non-Native English Speakers.

Step 5: Generate Your Summary

  • Generate Button: Click the purple “Generate Free Summary” button. The AI returns a summary in the exact format you chose — a paragraph, an executive summary, a one-sentence TL;DR, or a bulleted list — using only information found in your original text.

Step 6: Edit, Copy, or Download Your Summary

  • Edit: Click “Edit” to make changes directly to the summary before copying or downloading.
  • Copy All: Copies the summary to your clipboard as plain text, ready to paste wherever you need it.
  • Download: Save the result as a TXT, Word, or PDF file for later use or to share with others.

AI Summarizer Formula

The AI Summarizer follows a structured input-to-output process to produce a summary that’s both accurate and correctly shaped:

Summary Quality = Faithfulness + Type Structure + Length Fit + Tone Match

Where:

  • Faithfulness is whether every claim in the summary is actually supported by the source text, with nothing invented, exaggerated, or left out of context
  • Type Structure is how closely the summary follows the expected shape of its format, since a TL;DR reads nothing like an Executive Summary or a bulleted list of Key Takeaways
  • Length Fit is whether the summary matches the requested Short, Medium, or Long setting without padding or over-trimming the source’s key points
  • Tone Match is how closely the language matches your selected tone, from Technical & Precise to Simplified & Easy-to-Read

The clearer and more complete your source text, the more accurate and useful the generated summary will be.

Does the AI Summarizer add information that wasn’t in my original text?

No. The tool is instructed to only summarize information actually present in your source text — it never adds outside facts, opinions, or details, and it preserves the original meaning without misrepresenting the source’s claims.

What’s the difference between the summary types?

Paragraph Summary and Abstract read as flowing prose; Executive Summary is a compact business-style overview; Bullet Points and Key Takeaways return a scannable list; TL;DR always returns exactly one sentence regardless of the length setting you choose.

Does the Summary Length setting actually change the result?

Yes, for every type except TL;DR. Short produces roughly 1-2 sentences (or 2-3 bullets), Medium produces roughly 3-5 sentences (or 4-6 bullets), and Long produces roughly 6-9 sentences (or 7-10 bullets).

Does the Best For setting change the results?

Yes. Selecting Researchers versus Social Media / Quick Read changes the vocabulary and complexity of the summary — academic and research contexts return more precise language, while quick-read contexts return simpler, more direct language.

Can I upload a file instead of pasting my text?

Yes. You can upload a TXT, PDF, or Word file (up to 2MB) and the tool will automatically load its content for you to summarize.

Can I edit the generated summary afterward?

Yes. Click “Edit” to make changes directly to the summary, then use “Copy All” to copy it to your clipboard, or “Download” to save it as a TXT, Word, or PDF file.
